"Transition...
a state within which we continually find ourselves. Departure and
destination seem so much more tangible yet our tenure at those benchmarks
is brief in comparison to that spent navigating the course, and making
adjustments between those points.
Living in the Midwest with it's radical seasonal changes
and specifically for me living in a small community undergoing fierce
change at many levels, makes obvious the presence of change.
My work over the past few years has addressed this
change and its surrounding circumstances. The paintings, sculpture,
and printmaking in this body of work continue this exploration. Specifically,
I have chosen to study the mysterious processing, flash points, perceptions,
and layover locations that occur along the path to our adjusting to
and accepting change.
I use animals as iconographic symbols of messaging,
as I see a strong behavioral correlation between the animal world
and human world. They serve so perfectly as metaphor for our own conduct
and responses. Stitching together imagery encourages a message greater
than the sum of the groupings parts. Responses to the processing of
change are handled via variegated expression and interpretation. Through
these elements and strategies, I focus on the time of transition,
the space between, action and consequence."
